Rare Letter of Recommendation by the “Amudei Aish” Rabbi Avraham Shmuel of Aishishok, Together with Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor
A handwritten letter of recommendation written in 1865 by Rabbi Avraham Shmuel of Aishishok, author of Amudei Aish. The letter was given to his student Rabbi Eliyahu Hacohen, a rabbi and dayan who was looking to serve in a new community.
Ten years later in 1875 Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, Av Beis Din of Kovna, added his own recommendation along with his signature.
Letters from the Amudaei Aish are exceedingly scarce.
Rabbi Avraham Shmuel of Aishishok (1809 - 1869) was the author of Amudei Aish and one of the leading rabbis of Lithuania in his time. He held an elite group of Torah scholars called the "Perushim", which included Torah scholars such as the Ohr Sameach, Rabbi Chaim Leib of Vitebsk and more.
